One of Budapest's Oldest Clock Tower is Back - inc New Time Capsule
Budapest's restored City Hall clock tower, one of the oldest surviving towers in the capital, has been returned to its place, Mayor Gergely Karacsony said on Thursday on Facebook.

In a video attached to his post, Karacsony recalled that a time capsule was found in the tower when it was removed in December.

After the renovation, a new time capsule was placed inside, with its contents prepared jointly with members of the Budapest Student Council.

The capsule contains the renovation plans, the April 13, 2026 issues of Magyar Nemzet and Nepszava (the day after the parliamentary elections), two students' accounts of their daily lives, a slang dictionary, and messages from performers and musicians.

"I hope that when someone opens it one day, the contents of the time capsule will proudly recall the era in which we built Budapest together," the mayor wrote in his post.
