Summer Travel Update: 160 Destinations Now Reachable from Budapest
- 30 Mar 2026 7:11 AM
* 160 destinations, 220 flights and more than 15 million seats available
* New European connections and returning long-haul flights: daily operation to Philadelphia, service to Toronto four times a week and a new flight to Seoul
* Several existing routes reinforced by new flights
The summer schedule of Budapest Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network, will be launched at the end of March and will feature new European destinations, returning overseas flights and a new connection to Seoul, in addition to increasing frequencies on existing routes, helping passengers to choose the best service for their 2026 holidays.
For many, the most eagerly awaited new addition to the summer schedule is the return of transatlantic flights.
Following a seven-year hiatus, American Airlines’ Budapest-Philadelphia service will return with a daily flight in May, and Air Canada’s four weekly flights to Toronto will resume in June. This will bring huge benefits for passengers in terms of connections as well, with the two airlines offering easier access to more than 100 destinations in North America and the Caribbean.
The launch of these flights is good news not only for passengers, but also for the Hungarian economy; they encourage the arrival of high-spending leisure and business travelers in terms of inbound traffic, and are expected to further boost river cruise tourism.
Diversified airline development – more airlines to one destination
The 2026 summer schedule already reflects the results of the airline development strategy based on diversification, launched by Budapest Airport and VINCI Airports almost two years ago. From May, Condor will operate a direct Budapest-Frankfurt service; together with Lufthansa’s existing flights, this will provide around 10,000 seats per week to one of Germany’s most important business hubs.
Direct connections to Asia are also expanding. From April 2026, Asiana Airlines will launch flights between Seoul and Budapest, which, together with Korean Air’s existing service, will allow passengers to travel to the South Korean capital six times a week.
Chinese connections will also continue to grow, with direct passenger traffic to China up by 43% compared to 2024. Around a third of passengers arrive from or travel on to third countries, demonstrating Budapest’s growing regional role in air connectivity with Asia.
New European flights and expansion on popular routes
Another important element of Budapest Airport’s strategy is to maximize the use of infrastructure capacities when available. As a result, low-cost carriers have announced 17 new European flights and 12 new destinations in total in their summer schedules.
Wizz Air’s new flights will include Ankara (Turkey), Bergen (Norway), Billund (Denmark), Lamezia Terme (Italy), Kefalonia (Greece), Kalamata (Greece), Menorca (Spain), Sofia and Varna (Bulgaria), Dubrovnik and Zadar (Croatia), while Ryanair will expand its services to Krakow (Poland), Lamezia Terme (Italy), Dubrovnik (Croatia), amongst other destinations.
Greek and Croatian destinations will be particularly strong this year, while there will also be significant growth in the Baltic and Scandinavian regions. The number of seats offered to the Baltic capitals will increase to 125,000, while the Scandinavian market is featured in the schedule with 910,000 seats, projecting high-spending inbound traffic similar to that of overseas flights.
