Magyar & Macron Agree to Hungary-France Strategic Pact
Prime Minister Peter Magyar on Wednesday agreed with French President Emmanuel Macron to renew the strategic agreement between their countries.

Magyar said in a Facebook post that the agreement would be signed before Hungary's October 23 national holiday. He said his talks on bilateral and European subjects with Macron in Paris earlier in the day had been "progressive and promising".

"We have huge development opportunities in French-Hungarian ties with regard to energy, defence cooperation, research and development, and transport infrastructure,
" the prime minister said.

He said he had invited Macron and the presidents of the Senate and the National Assembly to attend commemorations of the 70th anniversary of Hungary's anti-Soviet revolution in Budapest. He added that he was glad to have accepted an invitation to Paris on the occasion of France's July 14 national holiday.

"In just a few weeks we succeeded in reinforcing Hungary's position in central Europe, Berlin, Paris, and Brussels; onwards and upwards!" the prime minister said.

Meanwhile, Fidesz: Germany, France 'charge Magyar for support in campaign'

"After Brussels, the leadership of Germany and France have also made Peter Magyar pay the political price for their support to the Tisza Party in the election campaign," opposition Fidesz said on Wednesday, concerning the prime minister's talks in Paris.

"In return for Western support, Magyar has given up Hungary's neutrality concerning the Russia-Ukraine war, and has openly sided with Ukraine," Fidesz said in a statement.

The prime minister has given up Hungary's veto of Ukraine's EU accession and has given consent to "EU funds going to Ukraine instead", the statement said.

Magyar's recent visits to Berlin and Paris have been "trips of Hungary's vulnerability, giving up a strong promotion of the Hungarian interest and the country's sovereignty", Fidesz said in its statement.
