According to the statement, two police officers attempted to stop the driver of a car with French licence plates in the Lake Balaton resort town of Siofok in the early hours of Wednesday after he left a petrol station without paying, but the man fled at high speed despite the officers' orders to stop.

After a long chase, the suspect reached Balatonoszod, where he could no longer drive on, but he refused to get out of the car or identify himself despite police orders.

The prosecutors said the patrol officers were only able to remove the resisting man from the car by using physical force, but even then he was uncooperative: he tried to break free, fell to the ground, and punched one of the officers in the face several times.

The officers eventually used a stun gun on the man, who continued to resist actively, and then handcuffed him.

The Kaposvar Regional Prosecutor's Office questioned the car driver as a suspect for violence against an official and ordered his detention.

The prosecutors filed a motion for the suspect's arrest, which the Kaposvar District Court will decide on Friday, the statement said.
