Hungarian Opposition Demands Release Of EC’s Funding Report

Opposition parties LMP, Együtt and the Hungarian Liberal Party (MLP) demanded that the government should release the EC’s related report to the public without delay. Police will carry out a nationwide operation called ‘Sober Easter’ from Thursday to Monday to monitor the roads for drunk and erratic driving. National Police head of department József Óberling said during a similar operation last year, some 26,000 checks found 600 drunk drivers, a rate of 2.2%. Alcohol consumption played a part in 10% of the accidents last year, he said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel plans to visit Budapest in February next year, according to Welt am Sonntag. The conservative daily said the German leader wants Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to vote for sanctions against Russia and “it is no accident” that she plans to meet him personally before March, when the extension of sanctions comes onto the agenda, according to the paper.
