The Hungarian state has presented Finland with a Bogányi piano to mark the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence. The piano was presented in a ceremony in Budapest, following talks between House Speaker László Kövér, and Maria Lohela, his Finnish counterpart.

130 years ago today, on 28 November 1887, the first urban tramway of continental Europe entered into service in Budapest. For more than 20 years, trams were run by horsepower, and the city’s leadership originally intended to break the monopoly position of the horse tram company with a steam powered railway.

This traditional service and wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Commonwealth War Cemetery of Solymár on Sunday 12 November at 10:55. Many dignitaries attended the ecumenical service, which lasted 20 minutes, including HE Iain Lindsay OBE (pictured above middle) the British Ambassador to Hungary.
