The national investigation office NNI has recommended indictments for prosecutors after completing its investigation into the business operations of the state electricity works MVM during 2006-08. The NNI had recommended indictments in April but prosecutors ordered the agency to obtain further evidence.

The biggest shopping center in Hungary, Arena Plaza, was temporarily closed yesterday morning after a fire broke out in the Pull and Bear store. An electrical fault resulted in that 500 square meter clothing store catching fire, apparently due to equipment used by cleaning staff before the store opened for business.

Budapest-based company Freedom 2005 tops the second-quarter list of companies and individuals with the highest outstanding tax bills, published on the website of the tax authority NAV. The company owes Ft 2.8 billion in taxes. The highest claim against an individual was Ft 370 million.

Foreign-owned companies account for 3.3% of all businesses registered in Hungary but employ 25% of Hungary’s 1.6 million active employees, according to the labour office NMH. Data from May 2011 shows that 5.7% of employees worked at companies where foreign ownership exceeded 50%.
