Formed in London in 1987, the Balanescu Quartet ranks as one of the world’s leading string quartets. Bingo! Yes, that was the feeling. The NAWA invited me to one of their monthly bingo sessions, but it was bingo with a twist. They have come up with a novel idea called ‘adopt a granny’. This is where the children of Miklos School came together with the seniors to play bingo. But first there was the small matter of egg decoration, just in time for Easter. The 2013 Budapest Spring Festival may well be offering on its second weekend what can be considered a festival within the festival: the Budapest Festival Centre has organized a programme that is in harmony with the spirit of the Easter celebrations. In 2013 Hungary’s most prestigious arts festival will await its audience between 22 March and 7 April.

The snow had melted away, the sun was shining, Irish eyes were smiling, and Hungarian eyes and everyone else’s eyes were smiling together. A small piece of the emerald Isle had gathered to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day: colourful, warm and charming, which, in my opinion, sums up the nation.

When you get an invitation to the Italian Institute of Culture, you know you are in for a treat. The annual ‘All Nations Lions Club’ event did not disappoint. The blind pianist Tamás Érdi had played a selection of classics from Brahms, Bartok, Debussy, to Liszt. This was not just a fabulous evening in a fabulous building, but it had a purpose.
