Commemorations were held in Siculeni (Madéfalva), in central Romania, on Saturday, marking the anniversary of a massacre in which hundreds of Szekler Hungarians were slain by Austrian troops 259 years ago. In a commemorative speech at the Siculicidium Memorial, Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga said that like the history of the Hungarian nation, “our joy and our sorrow are also one”.

January 6 not only ends the Christmastide on this, the Twelfth Day of Christmas, but it also marks the beginning of the Carnival Season (Farsang).
