The city of Budapest has begun to turn street lights on later than previously in the hope of saving Ft 66 million in the second half, news website Index reports. The city council made the decision on June 20, said city public lighting company BDK.

The public transport company BKV is testing an electrically driven bus in Budapest for several weeks. Passengers can try the new bus in southern Buda and in the downtown area from Wednesday, the Budapest transport centre BKK and the BKV said in a joint statement on Monday.

A 27-year-old fire-fighter died when a fire engine overturned between Sándorfalva and Ópusztaszer, Csongrád county, on Wednesday. Another fire-fighter was taken to Szeged clinic with a collarbone fracture and four others with bruises and all were released. National Disaster Control chief György Bakondi visited them at Szeged headquarters Wednesday afternoon.

Hungarian mountaineer Tibor Horváth died when an ice avalanche swept him away and buried him as he was descending from a 6,800 metre camp in the Himalayas on Saturday, Szabolcs Vincze, press chief for the Annapurna expedition, told Inforádió on Monday. He said there is practically no chance of retrieving his body.
