Turkey and Finnish author Sofi Oksanen will be guests of honour at this year’s Budapest International Book Fair taking place next month, the event’s director said on Tuesday. Turkey, to be a guest of honour country at the fair for the first time, will set up a 150-square-metre stand and present works by authors, the Turkish ambassador told a press conference for the fair.

Lebanese Al-Manar television made the false allegation that Hungary’s Ambassador to Lebanon, László Váradi, had made a statement during his visit to a museum in Lebanon. Other media outlets also publicised this piece of false news without checking its authenticity.

Parliament’s national security committee met on Tuesday to hear representatives of the police and the secret services, as well as foreign affairs officials over recent developments in Ukraine. After the session, Socialist head of the committee Zsolt Molnár said that the situation in Ukraine had turned dramatic.
