According to a survey of OECD, Hungarians’ basic skills that are necessary for work have been improved significantly in the past ten years. Also, the study shows that Hungarian women outperform men in reading, counting, and critical thinking.

Ambassador Kounalakis displayed great interest in economic conditions in Hungary as well as in the situation of the factory. The Embassy offices were competing with 32 profit-oriented and non-profit organizations.

"In January, the Dutch Embassy became the first embassy in Hungary to go Fair Trade. The embassy just placed their first order of Treehugger Dan's Fair Trade Kafequo coffee (55% arabica/45% robusta). The beans come from Peru and Tanzania, and are mixed and roasted by Caffe Agust in Italy. This move was quickly followed by the Gambian Embassy.

The U.S. Embassy and the American International School of Budapest have joined with Habitat for Humanity for many years to construct housing for those in need.
