In the first half, 18,200 companies closed down, a record high level, up from 11,300 a year earlier, website feketelista.hu reports. In the first half 2.9% of all companies closed down. The number of new companies registered was 13,100, down from 25,400 one year earlier. The number of companies stood at 640,300 on June 30, 2012.

Hungarian households have amassed Ft 143 billion of debt to energy companies as of May 31, half of which is owed to gas companies, according to data from the Hungarian Energy Office, Development Minister Mrs. László Németh reported. Gas companies switched off gas at 102,000 households and 13,000 business, while electricity companies cut off service affecting 37,000 households and 3,000 companies.

Planned closures of railway lines in September will be blamed on the “stinky, filthy IMF,” a senior adviser of state traffic science institute KTI has said in talks with union representatives. The official, Gábor Dóka, is heard making the comments on a secret video taken during negotiations by the railway workers union VDSZSZ and posted on its website.
