Fitch Ratings has affirmed Hungary’s ‘BBB’ sovereign rating with a negative outlook. “Hungary’s ratings are supported by strong structural indicators relative to ‘BBB’ peers, a record of economic growth fuelled by investments and solid net FDI inflows,” Fitch said in a scheduled review.

Consumer protection checks and controls have been continuous since the price caps on specified foods were introduced and more than Ft 1 billion in fines have been meted out by the authorities, “which sends a message to shops that it is not worth playing tricks”, government spokeswoman Alexandra Szentkirályi stressed at a press conference.
