The new two-day festival marks three significant anniversaries: the 25th anniversary of the House of Traditions, the 75th anniversary of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and the 125th anniversary of the Buda Redoute.

The programme includes concerts, gala performances and guided exhibition tours, with evening events featuring video light-painting projected onto the Buda Redoute facade and folk dance houses where visitors can join in. On Saturday, a musical procession will also wind through the surrounding streets.

The festival will feature a range of hands-on activities, including craft workshops, storytelling, a giant puzzle and a family treasure hunt, alongside a small gastronomy area. A library sound bath and games from local craft workshops will add to the programme.

One of the cultural highlights is the “Storytelling Objects” exhibition, a multi-sensory installation connecting the House of Traditions’ network across the Carpathian Basin. The festival also forms part of European Folklore Day and the Researchers’ Night programme, with talks and exhibitions offering insights into folk culture and its preservation.

The name of the festival refers to the traditional symbolism of swallows leaving Hungary for the winter, representing the end of summer, the harvest season and the promise of renewal when they return.

Most performances, workshops and guided tours will be conducted in Hungarian, although the music, dance and visual performances can be enjoyed without Hungarian-language knowledge.

The festival takes place at Corvin Square 8 and surrounding locations in District I, within walking distance of Buda Castle, Matthias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion.
