Preliminary 2013 figures released by the Central Statistical Office on Thursday show that Budapest had 7.8 million guest nights during the year, 5.4% more than in 2012.

The number of guest nights spent in commercial accommodation in Hungary rose by an annual 10.6% to 1,093,000 in February, the Central Statistical Office said. The number of guest nights spent by foreign visitors rose by 9.2% to 534,477. The number spent by Hungarian guests climbed 11.9% to 558,676.

Turkey and Finnish author Sofi Oksanen will be guests of honour at this year’s Budapest International Book Fair taking place next month, the event’s director said on Tuesday.
