Budapest Festival Orchestra: The Mission Continues

One week, 19 concerts, 14 towns, thousands of people. Following its community week in June, the Budapest Festival Orchestra again intends to give free concerts all around the country, taking music to people who rarely get to concert halls or have never been to a classical music concert.

The uprising began as a spontaneous nationwide revolt against the government of the Hungarian People’s Republic and its Soviet-imposed policies, lasting from 23 October until 10 November 1956. On 23 October Hungary marks the 58th anniversary of 1956, and it is is a national holiday. It commemorates the Revolution of 1956, when Hungarians rose up against the Soviet ruled communist system and also the ‘Day of the Republic’, as in 1989 Hungary was declared a republic. On October 22nd and 23rd there are several programs held throughout Hungary.

One of the very special events of the CAFe Budapest Festival of Contemporary Arts will be the concert by the legendary Australian jazz-rock-ambient trio, the Necks. Their minimalism built up into monumental forms from very refined elements will be anticipated by the Hungarian Jü featuring a great saxophone player from Norway, Kjetil Møster, who they will present their first album together with.
