Hungarian writer, poet and politician Sándor Csoóri has died at the age of 86 after a long illness, the Government Information Office told MTI. Born in Zámoly in central Hungary on February 3, 1930, Csoóri was a fiction writer and poet, as well as an essayist and screenwriter.

Japan’s Tomoki Sakata won the 14th Ferenc Liszt International Piano Competition at the Budapest Academy of Music. Russian pianist Sergei Beliavsky won the second prize and the audience’s award, while the third prize went to Germany’s Leon Bernsdorf. Krisztián Kocsis, the only Hungarian competitor, was given the human resources ministry’s special prize.
