One of the men is suspected of having had sexual relations with a girl under the age of 14 on several occasions in the spring of 2021, while also offering the minor drugs on several occasions, the statement said.

During an investigation launched in Dunakeszi, near Budapest, detectives identified the perpetrator, but he soon disappeared, so a domestic and European arrest warrant was issued against him.

In the other case, the Budapest police headquarters conducted proceedings for aggravated human trafficking. According to the information available, the man abused his position of power and influence to force a vulnerable victim to perform sexual acts over a prolonged period of time.

The suspect also slipped away during the investigation, so an arrest warrant was issued against him and measures were taken to issue a European and international arrest warrant.

After information indicated the suspects may be in The Netherlands, the Hungarian authorities contacted the Dutch search unit through the European Network of Fugitive Arrest Services (ENFAST) and, thanks to their close cooperation, identified the men's whereabouts.

The first man was arrested by Dutch police in the city of Zwolle on Sept 23, while the other was arrested in the town of Beuningen on Sept 28. Both were at their places of work when they were apprehended, a restaurant and a shop, respectively.

A Dutch court will decide on the extradition of the two Hungarian fugitives, while the national police headquarters will be responsible for their transfer to Hungary, the statement said.
