La Femme International Women's Film Festival to be Held in Budapest for First Time

At a press conference in Budapest by the founders and organizers, it was announced that the event, to be held for the first time, is the European "sister festival "of the La Femme International Film Festival (La Femme International Film Festival, LAFIFF), which has been held in Los Angeles since 2005.
The Budapest festival will take place between June 4 and 7. Nominations can be made in eleven categories, from feature films to student short films, with the condition that one of the director, screenwriter and producer must be a woman, explained Zita Szécsi, human resources specialist and film location organizer.
Leslie LaPage, an American producer and university professor and founder of the Los Angeles Film Festival, recalled at the press conference that the idea for the festival was born at the Sundance Festival: she was sitting in a café with female directors, producers and screenwriters, and since there were only a handful of female filmmakers presenting films, she felt they had to do something. We had to create a festival that supported our work and our content, she added, and then continued:
"They said no one would come, we wouldn't find sponsors, and women could only make romantic comedies anyway."
He said that the first festival screened 25 films in two days, and the award winners have since gone on to have decades-long careers. Over the past twenty years, the festival has screened films from many countries, from Tibet to the Arab states, giving more than 3,000 creators the opportunity to introduce themselves, and there are more female creators in the film industry, said Leslie LaPage.
Filmmaker Fanni Forgács said that their goal with the Budapest festival is to provide space for young creators, including mentoring and internship programs, university guest lectures, and opportunities for international networking and collaboration.
Judit Parádi, a communications specialist and cultural festival organizer, said that the award-winning films in four categories (short film, animated short film, documentary, feature film) will receive a one-week theatrical release in Los Angeles, which also qualifies them for an Oscar nomination.
