On December 10-12, Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Brent Hartley visited Budapest for discussions with Hungarian government officials, civil society representatives and business leaders. This is DAS Hartley's first visit to Hungary and is part of a larger introductory visit to the region that also includes stops in Slovakia and Austria.

Due to the critical situation in Syria, Hungary suspended the activity of its Embassy in Damascus as of December 5, 2012, and all Hungarian diplomats have left Syria. As a result, the handling of consular affairs and visa issuances also terminated.

Hundreds of fashion fanatics – mostly ladies – were standing through the long queues between 10:00 and 18:00 to get in to the GLAMOUR pop up strore. Mr Griffin’s appointment as Ambassador to Hungary was announced by the Foreign Minister the Hon Kevin Rudd MP, on 12 May 2011. Mr Griffin presented his Credentials to HE Mr Pál Schmidt on 18 August 2011. Since 19 January 2012, Mr Griffin has been Ambassador (non-resident) to Romania.
