New US Ambassador to Hungary a New York Businessman?
After months of speculation, U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated New York businessman Benjamin Landa as his candidate for the post of U.S. Ambassador to Budapest. The nomination was forwarded to the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on October 2, which will decide on final confirmation, The Washington Post reported.

The news was immediately confirmed by Bryan Leib, who himself was considered a possible contender for the top diplomatic position, which was held by David Pressman during Joe Biden’s term in office.

“I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Ben Landa on his nomination by President Donald J. Trump as the next U.S. Ambassador to Hungary,” Bryan Leib congratulated Landa on X

Hungary is a critical ally of the United States in Europe. Under President Trump’s leadership, I have no doubt that the relationship between our two nations will continue to reach new heights,” he wrote, emphasizing the strategic importance of the relationship.

Hungarian-American relations have recently been marked by repeated tensions under the Biden administration and then-Ambassador David Pressman. President Trump’s nomination of a businessman is expected to be received positively in Budapest and seen as a sign of détente.

Benjamin Landa, born in New York, has built his career primarily in the healthcare sector. He is the co-founder and CEO of SentosaCare LLC, a company specializing in the operation of elderly care facilities. Landa is also active in the Jewish community and supports various religious institutions in the United States and Israel.

According to media reports, Landa has been courted for the ambassadorial post for some time and met with President Trump in the Oval Office of the White House at the end of September.

The ambassadorial post in Budapest has been vacant since January, when former ambassador David Pressman resigned at the start of Donald Trump’s second term.

Since then, the U.S. Embassy in Budapest has been headed on an interim basis by senior diplomat Robert Palladino. After the nomination has been forwarded to the Senate, the Committee on Foreign Relations will now review Landa’s suitability and recommend him to the plenary for a vote. Only after confirmation by the entire Senate can Landa take up his post in Budapest.
