Hungarian Land Registry Data Accessible Online
The Land Registry (Földhivatal) in Hungary uses the centralized cadastre system to register geographical data, legal status, and ownership of real estate. This is the reason there is no so-called title deed, instead a current extract of the Land Registry documents (also referred to as a property sheet, “Tulajdoni lap”) may be obtained from the authority. This data is publicly available, so it is possible to check who the owner of a particular property, piece of land, building, or apartment, is; what their registered address was at the time of the purchase; whether there are more owners; who has any claims against it; and other useful information.

Until recently it was a cumbersome procedure to request it from a lawyer or obtain it directly from the office personally after having to pay a small fee. Today there is an online system which provides 24-hour access (TakarNet24 project) to anybody with a client gateway access. Limited information is free, and there is a 20-euro fee for obtaining an official property sheet. Land survey maps are also available.

The client gateway is a customer access account available to anyone who has registered at a government office or Hungarian embassy personally. It is an electronic identification system through which citizens can submit tax returns and get things done online, this is eGovernment. Since this must be obtained personally, those who have not yet registered depend on a Hungarian citizen (or agency, lawyer) who already has access.
