A few days ago an article appeared in HVG about the teaching of Hungarian history. The author rightly pointed out that it has been flawed for a very long time. I agree. Hungarians have a warped view of their country’s past.

Mr Griffin’s appointment as Ambassador to Hungary was announced by the Foreign Minister the Hon Kevin Rudd MP, on 12 May 2011. Mr Griffin presented his Credentials to HE Mr Pál Schmidt on 18 August 2011. Since 19 January 2012, Mr Griffin has been Ambassador (non-resident) to Romania.

November is a time to remember those who have gone before. In Hungary, Imagefamilies visit cemeteries, leave wreaths and flowers, light candles and talk about loved ones they’ve lost. For me, it’s a time to think about Hungarians whose lives were lived in the shadow of war, fascism, communism or poverty, and I am once again grateful to have grown up in peace, freedom and prosperity.
