Hungarian painter Lajos Tihanyi’s (1885-1938) painting Pont St. Michel fetched Ft 220 million amid fierce bidding at Sunday’s auction held by the Virág Judit Gallery, the third highest price ever at a Hungarian auction, tabloid Blikk reported. The total price was Ft 264 million with commission.

Hungarian students perform worse than average in the area of collaborative problem-solving, according to the 2015 PISA international assessment of educational attainment. In the OECD report released on Tuesday, Hungarian students had 472 points on this score, below the OECD average of 500 points.

The Central Statistical Office’s (KSH) “micro census”, conducted a year ago, has recorded the lowest number of children and the greatest elderly population in the history of such surveys, KSH reported on Monday. In 2016, Hungary had some 1.4 million children under 15, compared to nearly 2.3 million after WWII.

The European Centre for Entrepreneurship and Policy Reform just released the report The Geography of Europe’s Brain Business Jobs by Dr. Nima Sanandaji and Prof. Stefan Fölster, regarding the percentage of ‘brain business jobs’ in Europe. Hungary ranked well: Budapest occupies the 12th place.
