Budapest Airport registered an annual 10.8% increase in traffic last month, with 840,486 passengers arriving and departing from the facility, an all-time high for the month of April. The rise in traffic was twice that of the EU average. In the first four months, passenger traffic increased 12.1% year-on-year, while airlines reported average seat occupancy of 78.8%.

The number of viewers of the nightly news programme “Híradó” aired on M1 at 7.30 p.m. has dropped from 332,000 when M1 became an all-news channel on March 15 to 151,000 among adults, Népszabadság reports. Ratings for the state-run TV news had been gradually dropping in recent years, but even in February and early March over 300,000 people watched the nightly news.

Marcell Murányi, editor-in-chief of Hungary’s largest daily Népszabadság, has resigned over a road accident later leading to death. Murányi said he resigned after “learning from press reports that the man hurt in an accident he had been involved in has died.” Business daily Napi Gazdaság said on Wednesday that Murányi drove over a cyclist in central Budapest just after midnight on March 30.

The number of chain-smokers in Hungary has increased, reports Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet. According to the data provided by the Central Statistical Office, while the number of cigarette smokers decreased from 31 percent in 2009 to 29 percent in 2014, the number of chain-smokers increased in 2014 to 28 percent of all smokers from 27 percent in 2009.
