Illegal Cigarette Sales In Hungary Top 12%

The black market for cigarettes in Hungary has grown to 12.1% of total sales, market research company GfK Hungária said. A little more than a year ago, GfK Hungária said illegal sales of cigarettes accounted for 7.7% of total turnover. In its latest release, the market researcher said the rate had reached 11.8% by the end of last year, but noted there had been “restructuring” on the market.

Viktor Szigetvári, the co-leader of the E-PM party, called on cabinet chief János Lázár and economy minister Mihály Varga to indicate whether the press report was correct and if so, to reveal what the purpose of the plan was.

We haven’t talked about the tobacconist shops lately, although there is quite a bit to be said about them. Fewer and fewer people are buying cigarettes at the designated stores.

According to the Head of the National Tobacco Trade Non-profit Ltd., Zsolt Gyulay, mobile vendors and cigarette booths will be forbidden to sell tobacco at bigger festivals. Tobacconists can only sell cigarettes with a permanent place of operation contract for the given area, which seems to be a somewhat unrealistic requirement for most of the music ...

Around 100,000 Chinese live in Hungary, and Budapest has its own Chinatown, well, a sprawling China-shanty-town. It's a real oddity, and if not the most immediate of local attractions, it is a side of the city that's bafflingly interesting, in a grimy kind of way. ...
