Retail sales in Hungary climbed by 4.7% in January from the same month a year earlier, preliminary data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) show. Retail sales rose by an annual 3.7% when adjusted for calendar year effects.

Local Italian police think that the bus crash in which 16 Hungarians died near Verona on January 20 was caused by a human error, Verona’s Polstrada chief told MTI. Girolamo Lacquaniti ruled out technical problems with the vehicle which crashed into a pylon and caught fire, and said that the driver may have been sick or fallen asleep.
