In an ordinary goulash soup you will find normal beef chopped in bite-sized pieces, potatoes, onions and paprika. However, the restaurant at the corner of Huszár and Munkás streets doesn’t offer a lot of ordinary things. The interior ministry has proposed that the Hungarian government declare a state of crisis in light of the massive influx of migrants, which will be discussed at next Tuesday’s cabinet meeting, government office chief János Lázár told a press conference. Lázár said that findings by the national security cabinet indicate that organised crime and the threat of terrorism are on the rise in Hungary.

As a temporary measure, Hungarian railways MÁV will only operate its Budapest-Vienna service to the border station of Hegyeshalom, the company said. The Austrian ÖBB railways said earlier that it is temporarily suspending its Railjet train service between Budapest and Vienna due to overcrowded trains. It will also stop its regional services across the border.

By Thursday morning the number of migrants waiting at Budapest’s Keleti railway station has reached 2,000, Tibor Lakatos, a senior officer of the national police, told the press. Lakatos said the police were working to direct the illegal migrants to reception points of the immigration office. Lakatos said that some 1,000 police officers were working along the Hungary-Serbia border in the south.
