The Budapest Spring Festival, a major event of the city’s cultural calendar, launched with a photo exhibition in the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibition presents more than 200 black-and-white and colour images taken by Oscar-winning Hungarianborn cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond in his native country and during his career in the United States.

The Hungarian Sailing Association (MVSZ) is to organise close to 170 competitions this year, with the traditional season-opening race on Lake Balaton to be held on 16 May at the town of Balatonfüred on the northern shore, the Association said at its first press conference of the year. The largest Hungarian race, named Kékszalag or “Blue Ribbon”, will be launched for the 47th time on 2 July.

Despite plans, Russian airline Utair has cancelled its weekly scheduled flight between Moscow and Sármellék near Lake Balaton, a local mayor said. Utair launched the service between Vnukovo airport and Sármellék near popular holiday resort Hévíz last year, operating it weekly on Sundays between March and October.

The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) has launched an investigation against radical nationalist Jobbik MEP Béla Kovács and former MEP Csanád Szegedi on suspicion of abuse of funds and fraud, the news portal Origo reported. OLAF suspects that the MEPs abused funds available for employing interns and assistants. They had access to a monthly 21,000 euros for that purpose, Origo said.
