The co-ruling Christian Democrats do not support the idea of restoring the death penalty in Hungary, Bence Rétvári, the party’s deputy leader, said. The Christian Democrats welcomed that the criminal code had been made stricter over the past five years, including the introduction of the “three strikes” law and would support further tightening, he said.

The Baptist Charity’s five-member rescue team returned from earthquake-hit Nepal on Monday, after helping victims there for several days. Team leader László Pavelcze said after arriving at Liszt Ferenc International Airport that they had taken 18,000 euros worth of aid to Nepal where they were assisting the medical staff and providing health services to 300 people.

Although Roman Catholic he would say “yes” to restoring death penalty in a referendum, he said. “It must be decided what is more important: a couple of international agreements, or the life of Hungarian people,” Vona said.
