The goal in each concert of this series of the Budapest Strings is to present works by young Hungarian composers alongside works by well-known classical composers from whom they drew inspiration. The host for the concerts, Endre Tóth, will engage in conversation with the Hungarian composers, thereby providing the audience with an insight into the secrets of the creative process.

The Palace of Arts will be open as usual until 6 pm on 1 May. The Andrássy út, Allee and Mammut ticket offices will be closed. On 2 May, the Palace of Arts, all ticket offices, the Bohemian Restaurant and the Hangfürt CD Shop will be closed. The Ludwig Museum, the Vince Book Shop and the P’art Café will be open until 6 pm.

Last Sunday morning I went along to the 'Palace of Arts' (MUPA) to check-out 'Hungarian folk dance for beginners' - and they were truly beginners, some even in their nappies! At the age of 18, Dezső Ránki won first prize at the Schumann International Competition in Zwickau, and has performed concerts worldwide ever since. Among others, he has played with the Berlin and London Philharmonics, the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and the Orchestre National in Paris, and under noted conductors including Sir Georg Solti, Sándor Végh, Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta.
'Magic Circus' - For Children, Festival Theatre Budapest, 17 January
