Cosmetics, House Hold Chemical Sales Climb 7% In Hungary

Retail sales of household chemicals and cosmetics in Hungary reached 290 billion forints (EUR 919m) in January-October, up 7% from the same period a year earlier, market researcher Nielsen said. Sales of shower gel were up 12%, tissue sales rose 11% and fabric softener sales increased 10%. Stores bigger than 2,500sqm generated 32% of total turnover during the period.
LMP Files Criminal Report About Alleged Eximbank Loan For Hungarian TV2 Purchase

The green opposition LMP will file a criminal report for abuse of power and mismanagement in connection with Eximbank lending 6.72 billion forints (EUR 21.3m) to government commissioner Andrew G Vajna’s company to buy media group TV2, according to press reports. LMP co-leader András Schiffer said that the bank should not “stuff the pockets of a government-friendly offshore knight with loans”.

Instead, analysts are turning their attention to the possible expansion of non-conventional monetary tools, designed to redirect deposits held at the central bank by banks to the bond market. Technical devices are still the most popular Christmas gifts in Hungary, economic news portal vg.hu said in its latest market roundup. According to a recent survey conducted by K&H Bank, Hungarians spend 43 thousand forints (approx. €140) on average during Christmas shopping season, including 29 thousand forints spent on gifts and presents.
