UNESCO - Listed Buso Festival Begins In Mohács

The popular end-of-winter Buso festival, a registered UNESCO cultural heritage event, began in Mohács, in southern Hungary, featuring around 1,300 Buso people wearing traditional wooden masks and sheepskin costumes marching in the city over the next six days.

According to local legend, 'devils' still come on boats from the Island of Mohács. After arriving they proceed to Kóló Square , and then all parade through the streets, mixing with the audience along the way.

The carnival season lasts from Epiphany (6 January) until Ash Wednesday and is typified by masks and costumes, but also eating and drinking, dance and parties. For this performance, the Tura Tradition-Keepers will conjure up a carnival atmosphere on stage and introduce ancient folk customs through games, singalongs and frenetic dancing.

TI: Young Hungarians View Corruption As Serious Problem

The vast majority of young Hungarians believe that corruption is a serious problem in Hungary and should not be tolerated, a recent survey presented by Transparency International (TI) Hungary shows. The survey, presented by TI Hungary director József Péter Martin at the Sziget Festival, found that 80% of 18-29 year olds consider corruption a serious problem.
