The National Bank has issued a gold memorial medal and a stamp to mark the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the legendary Hungarian photo-journalist Robert Capa. The medal was jointly designed by Antal Illyés and György Szabó and the stamp by graphic artist Imre Benedek.

The Government is establishing a civil fund with a budget of HUF 1.5 billion, within the framework of which NGOs and local governments may apply for funding with relation to programmes realised during the course of Holocaust Memorial Year 2014, László L. A Holocaust memorial centre could be built at Budapest’s Józsefváros train station by next spring, Prime Minister’s Office chief János Lázár announced on Thursday. Speaking after a meeting of the Hungarian Holocaust 2014 Memorial Commission, he said the cabinet had instructed state railway company MÁV to take part in the project.

Twenty-two years ago, on August 20, 1991 Blessed John Paul II has celebrated a holy mass at Heroes’ Square. In honour of this mass, the Municipality of Budapest has placed a memorial tablet in front of the Museum of Fine Arts. The tablet was blessed by Cardinal Primate dr. Péter Erdő and during the event Mayor István Tarlós has given a speech.
