The aim of the inquiry is to find out whether the airlines have complied with EU regulations regarding the information and assistance to be provided to passengers, the office said.
In response, Wizz Air affirmed that it will always inform passengers who purchase their tickets directly from the airline about what is happening with their flight via e-mail or text message.
Passengers who do not buy their tickets directly from the airline will receive notifications from the travel agency or online intermediary through which they bought their tickets.
As a result, they may not receive the information, or only receive it late, even if Wizz Air fulfils its information obligations, the airline said.
Recently, a Ryanair flight from Barcelona to Budapest was more than 24 hours late, and a Wizz Air flight from Rome on Saturday night suffered a significant delay.
On Sunday, many football fans missed the Scotland-Hungary match when a Eurowings flight from Budapest to Stuttgart was more than four hours late.
