Holocaust Centre At Eighth District Train Station In Budapest

A Holocaust memorial centre could be built at Budapest’s Józsefváros train station by next spring, Prime Minister’s Office chief János Lázár announced on Thursday. Speaking after a meeting of the Hungarian Holocaust 2014 Memorial Commission, he said the cabinet had instructed state railway company MÁV to take part in the project.
Lázár said the institution should become a leading centre in Europe. The cabinet will provide Ft 5 billion for the project.
The train station in Budapest’s Eighth District was chosen because it was from there that Hungarians were sent to death camps. The station has been closed since 2005.
