After 63 years of deliciousness the illustrious Jégbüfé closes its doors in the Párisi Udvar at Ferenciek tere due to the upcoming renovation of the whole building. Many people love it; some might hate it, but one thing’s for sure: it is and has been the legendary place of many generations throughout these years.
Rain Couldn’t Stop Budapest Gourmet Festival

Some hadn’t noticed that this year’s Gourmet Festival’s official food was the chicken paprikash and the ćevap. As always, as soon as the Gourmet Festival had started, it’d started to rain. The opening was difficult with the constant raining but in the second day, the gourmands were more prepared: the Wellington boots had appeared as well as the rain coats and the wine glasses, too.

The government will provide subsidies to promote GMO-free soya production in Hungary, a farm ministry official said. Soya is one of the most important sources of animal feed protein but the type grown in 85-99% of land in the world’s leading soya producers of Brazil, Argentine and the US is genetically modified, Zsolt Feldman said.

Hungarian brewers’ domestic sales climbed 2% to 5.8m hectoliters last year, according to data compiled by professional association MSSz. Attila Schillinger, the association’s head, said the increase followed a 4.5% decline in 2013, when excise taxes were raised.

The world’s most prestigious gastronomy competition will be held in Budapest on May 10-11, when 20 national winners will compete to represent Europe in the world event in 2017, the director of gastronomy events of GL Events Exhibitions told a press conference.

Péter Faragó, the agency’s chief, told a news conference that the aim of the scheme dubbed Pantry Shelf was to get handmade and food-industry products and so-called Hungaricums onto the shelves of tourist service providers.
