Over 170,000 Foreigners Eligible to Vote in Hungarian Local Elections
Approximately 137,000 non-Hungarians living in Hungary, along with 35,000 EU citizens, refugees or long-term residents, are eligible to vote in the June 9 local authority elections in Hungary without having to register.

In European Parliament elections, however, EU citizens must register to vote for Hungarian candidates. Some 3,600 people have done so to date.

EU citizens residing in Hungary are also eligible to stand as candidates for seats in the European Parliament.

Refugees and long-term residents of legal age may vote, but cannot run as candidates.
