Contemporary Art Festival On Budapest's City Park Lake

Budapest is currently hosting the 7th Art Moments Central European visual art festival in the capital's City Park, on the lake. The festival’s mission is to remove contemporary art from the conventional museum and gallery settings and bring it closer to a much wider audience, says Szabolcs Erdélyi the event organiser.

The purpose of Budapest Card, the capital’s only official city card, is to help visitors and tourists enjoy an eventful stay in the city and at the same time promote to them Budapest’s rich and diverse culture. The Budapest Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Gallery opened an exhibition of 25 international masterpieces from their collections on large outdoor digital displays in the centre of Madrid on Thursday. The exhibition dubbed “Art on the Street from Budapest”, featuring works by the likes of El Greco, Leonardo, Raphael and Munkácsy, will be on show near the Prado Museum until August 9.

Hundreds of venues await visitors until late into the night in Budapest and around the country on Hungary’s Night of Museums. Most museums, cultural institutes, thermal baths, zoos, wildlife parks and botanical gardens will be open from the late afternoon on June 21 until around 1am on the next day.

The chief purpose of the exhibition conceived for the 150th anniversary of the artist’s birth is to give a comprehensive presentation of the museum’s own material of prints and drawings. As the earliest sheets in the Budapest collection are from 1892 the exhibition wishes to shed light upon the last decade of his oeuvre (1891–1901), characterised by lively lithographic activity.
