The trade surplus grew to €761.7 million in June, from €570.8 million one year earlier, according to preliminary data from the Central Statistics Office. Exports saw 5.6% growth, to €6.9 billion, while imports were 3% higher, at €6.1 billion.

The Hungarian mortality rate is almost 50% higher than the average of the most developed EU15 countries, according to a study included in the Central Statistics Office publication Demographic Portrait 2012. The death rate here is also higher than in those countries that joined the EU simultaneously or later than Hungary.

Ryanair will fly to Hahn airport, near Frankfurt four times a week from November 12 and is adding new links to Eindhoven and London, communication chief Stephen McNamara announced yesterday. The low-cost airline will compete with Wizz Air on the Hahn route.
