In an article published in Monday’s edition of conservative German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán blamed the European Commission for the crisis which is affecting the European Union. Mr. Orbán calls on Member States to reclaim their spheres of competence from Brussels.

The Gabrieli Choir's final concert before the summer break takes place on Friday 10th June at the Herminamezői Szentlélek templom (Bp., XIV., Kassai tér), starting at half past seven. There are four contrasting works on the programme - dating from the 18th to the 21st centuries - and chief of these is a joyful jazz mass: the Mass in Blue by Will Todd (1970- ).

I am following with fascination the Orbán government’s reaction to the “teachers’ revolt” that originated with a single complaining letter from a high school in Miskolc, a town that’s not exactly the center of Hungarian liberalism.

I have the distinct feeling that something is afoot in Hungary, something the self-satisfied Orbán government is not prepared for. I see the beginnings of a movement that may well overcome the current apathy and resignation of Hungarian society and produce active resistance to the Orbán regime.
