On 23 October Hungary marks the 58th anniversary of 1956, and it is is a national holiday. It commemorates the Revolution of 1956, when Hungarians rose up against the Soviet ruled communist system and also the ‘Day of the Republic’, as in 1989 Hungary was declared a republic. On October 22nd and 23rd there are several programs held throughout Hungary.

The European Commission (EC) has requested that Hungary amend its registration tax rules for cars leased from abroad, the EC said when revealing its infringement decisions taken in the month. The request took the form of a reasoned opinion which is the second stage in EU infringement proceedings.
