The government should state its reasons for aiding the construction of an oncology centre in Vietnam with 60 million euros, opposition Jobbik said on Friday. The contract to aid the 500-bed centre had been signed by the Socialist government in 2009, Andrea Varga-Damm of Jobbik told a press briefing. In the time since, Vietnam has doubled its GDP while Hungary’s has declined, she noted.

The Hungarian government aims to establish “special relations” with Vietnam, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said after talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, in Hanoi on Monday. Hungary has chosen Vietnam as its regional strategic partner because of the long-standing, thriving diplomatic ties between the two countries, Orbán told a joint press conference.

The head of parliament’s national security committee Zsolt Molnár, of the opposition Socialists, has asked the interior minister and heads of the national security services, the central bank and the tax office about possible links between the 2012 extradition of an Azeri soldier who had killed an Armenian in Hungary and the alleged transfer of funds to a Hungarian bank account.
