Peter Roscoe, Co-Founder, Churchill Shooting Budapest
British by birth and Budapest by choice, Pete’s career has been equal parts grit and grin. After swapping army fatigues for finance spreadsheets, he cut his teeth in Moscow before landing in Budapest — a “temporary” stop that’s lasted 14 years (the city has that effect).

Along the way he founded Stock MVP (a stock market platform with nearly +50,000 paid subscribers), a security firm for movie sets and visiting VIPs, AWOL (an app helping hospitality businesses combat algorithms and paid advertising), and Churchill Shooting Range — one of Budapest’s highest-rated activities on Google, operated proudly alongside several fellow veterans.

What sets Pete apart is his ability to laugh through chaos — whether it’s a Danube flood threatening the office or a project wobbling on the edge, he’s the first to crack a joke while still getting the job done. When he’s not keeping spirits high, he’s glued to Liverpool matches or hobbling off the pitch in Budapest’s football league.

A husband, father, and eternal optimist, Pete believes business should always come with a smile.

1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?

2012 - I came here because the finance company I worked for were expanding and living in Moscow was too much, so I wanted a smaller city, I was meant to be here just for a few months… that ended up being 14 years (and counting)

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?

Sure, I used to be in the British army (many moons and breakfasts ago) so I travelled a lot, USA, Sweden, Denmark and of course Iraq and Afghanistan.

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?

The architecture, I'm not usually into "buildings" but there's something about the city that draws you in and with many buildings choosing to refurbish rather than rebuild it truly does set it apart from anywhere else in the world.

4. Friends are in Budapest for the weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?

Rudas is my weekly rehab spot, so I usually go there (usually after nursing a hangover from the night before), and of course, Churchill shooting range (shameless plug).

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?

I love a good soup and stew, so probably goulash.

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?

Some emergency cans of Heineken.

7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?

Sajt - Brits will get why.

8. What do you miss most from home?

Going to Liverpool and Anfield.

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?

I would love to one day be more involved with football and the corporate side of things.

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?

Good question, probably something that involved building. I have no patience for fiddly things.

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?

Mauritius. Heritage Le Telfair (a strong recommendation for those with kids).

12. Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?

See last answer (ha).

13. Apart from temptation what can't you resist?

A game of football, Im old, slow and far from my peak years, but I cannot give it up.

14. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?

Favourite band Kings of Leon, love seeing them live but like most music. As a teen (you guessed it), I was football-obsessed.

15. Red or white?

Neither (im a whisky or beer bloke) .

16. Books or films?

Films for sure (that said I love the odd audiobook in the car while stuck in BPs famous traffic).

17. Morning person or night person?

Morning for sure.

18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?

Wow, this is a change of tone. I would say that the world is getting more divided, left going more left, right going more right, and we need to learn to listen to opposing viewpoints and be ok with them seeing the world differently.

19. Buda or Pest?

Peaceful Buda by day. Complete Pest by night. Stole that from a stag party at the shooting range ha.

20. What would you say is your personal motto?

If you are going through hell, keep going - Winston Churchill himself
