Today I spent my third and final day at the Sziget Festival for this year. It was, unsurprisingly, a day of threes – third speech in Hungarian, policemen from three countries, three unexpected faces on Hungarian banknotes, and a meeting with three organisations. And Team GB remains third in the Olympic medals table. I am now passing the baton to three of the younger generation for the weekend.

Hungarian athletes won gold medals in two rowing events on Wednesday, raising the national total to six. Rudolf Dombi and Roland Kokeny pipped a Portuguese duo for first place in the men's 1,000-metre kayak pairs race.

The Budapest Transport Centre and a sports marketing office have placed TV screens on some city trams to allow fans of the Olympics to watch the games while they travel. The TVs will appear on the 1, 1A, 3, and 61 trams during the Olympics.

The tax authority NAV will carry out on-site checks at pubs and restaurants during the Olympic Games, it announced yesterday. Tax officials disguised as football fans carried out raids during the European Championship football tournament last month. The most frequent tax abuses were recorded in the Fourth, Eight and Thirteenth districts.
