Bernie Ecclestone, the British business magnate who is chief executive of the Formula One Group, has confirmed that the Hungarian Grand Prix, held every year at the Hungaroring motor racing circuit at Mogyoród, near Budapest, will be held at least until 2026.

The Photo Street Festival returns to Nagymező Street, the street of photography as the Capa Center and the Mai Manó House organizes several interactive and engaging photography events for the public, celebrating the genre. A good school cannot be “built” without a dialogue with all the teachers, Human Resources Minister Zoltan Balog told headmasters in Szeged, commenting on a full-day strike organised by unions. Public school teachers held a full-day strike on Wednesday after their strike committee had failed to reach an agreement with the government earlier this week on their demands.

The first open air WAMP fair this year is eagerly awaited by shoppers with a keen eye for design, especially as after the grey winter days everyone is looking to spending time (and money) outdoors again. On the last weekend of April we all have the chance to check out designer products in the open air at Erzsébet square, in downtown Budapest.

Slovakia and Norwegian writer Jostein Gaarder will be the guests of honour at this year’s Budapest International Book Festival held between April 21 and 24, an organiser said. Slovakia will present the Hungarian edition of volumes by 30 Slovak authors released by 18 publishers, the director of the Slovak Literary Information Centre told a press conference.

The European Tree of the Year contest originated in 2011. It was inspired by the popular Tree of the Year contest, which has been organised in the Czech Republic. The European round is a finale consisting of the winners of the national rounds. This year, Hungary is represented by the oak of Bátaszék.

Politicians and activists of the Socialist opposition expressed solidarity with teachers in front of the Parliament. Party leader József Tóbiás said that the strike was about common goals and solidarity, and those in power must not be allowed to threaten those who joined the strike.
