Special Easter Monday Concert at Pannonhalma Basilica
- 7 Apr 2025 1:06 PM

At the first occasion of the Archabbey Organ Concerts, masterpieces of organ art, religious music and the efforts of outstanding composers in music history to glorify God will be heard in perfect harmony, the organisers say.
The evening will begin with the virtuoso Toccata VII by German Baroque composer and organist Johann Kaspar Kerll. The following Bach piece features delicate, emotionally rich motifs, and after the G major prelude, another Kerll work will be performed.
The Capriccio sopra il Cucu is an entertaining piece that plays with the sound of the cuckoo with sophisticated wit. The first part of the concert will close with Bach's more serious G major fugue.
The concert continues with a deeply religious piece by 20th-century composer Franz Schmidt.
The "Hallelujah" movement of the D major prelude and fugue combines the musical language of the time and the formal traditions of the Baroque fugue. A musical interpretation of the joyous song of resurrection and redemption.
The next piece also deals with a religious theme. Louis Vierne & Jehan Le Povre Moyne's Les Angélus evokes the Angelus.
Then the audience can hear three arrangements of the Protestant hymn – Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr, meaning Glory to the Lord of Heaven.
First, the work of the German composer and organist Georg Böhm is performed. He is followed by an arrangement by his student, Bach, and then a romantic transcription by Sigfrid Karg-Elert. The section is concluded with Alexandre Guilmant's Chorale and Fugue, Op. 80/5, which combines romantic expression with traditional religious music.
The concert will close with Charles Villiers Stanford's Song of Wisdom, op. 118/6, based on biblical and religious texts that lead the audience to the eternal wisdom of God, the announcement reads.
