Márton Pataki, a senior official of the party, told MTI that important information was missing on the construction being carried out on the Carmelite monastery building, such as what changes were planned to its facade.

Civil groups held a demonstration on Sunday against a development project in the City Park, dubbed the Liget Project, which includes constructing a museum quarter. Over five hundred participants adopted a symbol of their protest, a tree growing out of a clenched fist. Organisers said that civil groups demanded a halt to the project and planned changes to the park withdrawn.

Contrary to former plans made public, a balcony is being built on the Danube-facing side of the Carmelite convent in Buda Castle now being converted for use as the Prime Minister’s Office. As the balcony is not part of the original 250-year old building, the addition may violate regulations regarding cultural heritage.

The document is almost forty pages long, full of tables and graphs, and defies being summarized in a few paragraphs. The first open air WAMP fair this year is eagerly awaited by shoppers with a keen eye for design, especially as after the grey winter days everyone is looking to spending time (and money) outdoors again. On the last weekend of April we all have the chance to check out designer products in the open air at Erzsébet square, in downtown Budapest.

The programme series showcasing heritage buildings dubbed Budapest 100 will focus on the history of Budapest’s Grand Boulevard (Nagykörút) this spring, the organisers said. The project will be held for the 6th year on April 16-17. This year buildings can be entered regardless of their age.

Socialist lawmaker István Nyakó said that the government decision to revoke the law on Sunday shopping restrictions was “a small victory for the opposition Socialists and a big one for the electorate”. For the second time, the ruling parties have been forced to “back off”, Nyakó said, referring to demonstrations that resulted in the withdrawal of plans to introduce an internet tax in the past.
