"The government will give preference to medical students in allocating funds to cover tuition fees, according to data released by Education state secretary Rózsa Hoffmann. Only 100 law students will be funded by the state in September, down from 800 last year, and 250 in economics, down from 4,900 last year.

"The cabinet has set itself the goal of helping 500,000 people living in deep poverty via its Europa 2020 strategy, Economy Ministry state secretary Zoltan Csefalvay told on a conference in Budapest. He said 28.3% of the population, about 3 million people, live in poverty in Hungary, and that this percentage is to be reduced to 23.5%.
